From our Director Mine Temel
At Stewart Street Community Preschool we value the importance of children’s learning and laying a foundation for their life’s development within the first few years of life. Our philosophy is to watch children flourish and grow as a person in our care. Help, support and guide them to reach their milestones. Using moments to provide spontaneous experiences that allows us to scaffold learning, and encourage them to learn from their social interactions and their own interests with their peers and educators. We see children as active and competent learners, who are able to contribute to and make their own decisions in regards to their learning and development. Our curriculum acknowledges the importance of the play spaces, our educators take the time to plan and develop engaging play spaces that provides challenges, encourage social interactions and supports development of children in all areas.
Healthy living is also a big part of our curriculum and practises. We believe in providing children with lots of opportunities to get physically active, as well as providing healthy eating habits for life. We are very luck at Stewart Street to have 2 passionate cooks to prepare seasonal fresh healthy meals and incorporate native herbs and spices in their cooking from our own veggie garden. We aim to embed sustainability in our curriculums and pedagogical practises to ensure children develop a sense of responsibility for the environment and have a solid grasp of sustainable practices.
We believe that families are the most important influence in their child’s life. We develop strong relationships with families that allow our environments and curriculum to be reflective of the home environment. As educators we also take this opportunity to use our role and expertise to help and support families when and where needed.
We strive to provide an environment that is safe, diverse and supports equality. We are committed to prepare and set up an environment where children feel safe, secure, supported and respected.
We Respect and include Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and the many diverse cultures within our preschool, our local community and the world. We reach out and build strong relationships with our local and wider community to learn more about our land and our diverse cultures in collaboration with children and in partnership with families and the community.
