Big Fat Smile’s The Gallery closed its doors with a final celebration event on Friday, 29 June.

Although we farewell The Gallery in its current form, a refocus on supporting creativity and providing quality arts programs through our Artspace studio and arts outreach programs will continue.

Big Fat Smile plans to host a series of pop-up exhibitions that will allow more accessibility in local environments – so that members of the community can be immersed in creative works. For our existing young Artspace course artists we will utilise our Green Bean Play Café family lounge to regularly showcase the Artspace Studio artworks in a collaborative way.

On the final exhibition closing night, Big Fat Smile Chief Executive Officer, Jenni Hutchins shared:

“This wonderfully large gallery space opened to the public in November 2014, showcasing works from children and adult artists alike, including works created in our Artspace Studio workshops.”

Jenni Hutchins also noted the complimentary achievements by the Artspace/Gallery team.

“A standout achievement during the operation of The Gallery was the creation and publication of the Educators Handbook: Joy & Mess which is available for sale,” she said.

Joy & Mess publication and the future of the Gallery is part of our continued focus on providing arts education to both the children in our Big Fat Smile services and the broader community.

Thank you to all those staff, families, children and local artists who were involved in the success of The Gallery since 2014.

A Handbook For Educators

Educating for a braver, brighter, more creative world is our vision at Big Fat Smile. We believe that creativity is not just the quality of thinking; it’s interactive, it’s social and it supports children to engage and learn.

This handbook is a fabulous resource for educators, helping to demystify the creative process. Representing the culmination of six years of work in over 40 educational settings, working with thousands of children – this key resource supports running creative classes and activities.

From the Strategy of the class to the Inspiration of the activity. From life drawing, printmaking and murals through to clay and environmental sculpture – educators will feel comfortable and empowered in their own artistic voice and skills base.  We have intentionally designed this book as a ‘dip into’ resource that busy educators will love to use in their activities with children.

Price – $25.00 (includes postage)
