Big Fat Smile is delivering further support to educators and positive outcomes to families with the development and recruitment of an industry-first Pedagogical Thinker in Residence Role.

We welcomed industry expert, Michele Peden, who was appointed to the position to enhance education and care outcomes.

The Pedagogical Thinker in Residence role is responsible for developing an educational framework for children aged naught to 12 years old which will benefit Big Fat Smile’s 27 Community Preschools, 14 Fun Clubs, Artspace Program and Green Bean Play Café.

Michele Peden comes to Big Fat Smile with 20 years’ experience in the early childhood education and care industry including working with the University of Wollongong as a project manager and researcher for the Faculty of Social Science – School of Education and Early Start.

Big Fat Smile’s CEO Jenni Hutchins said the position is a response to feedback received from families about understanding the educational framework that their children are involved in whilst in care.

“In recent consultations and a co-design approach to our new Strategic Plan, we determined that our educational ethos and practice were critical to the happiness, wellbeing and success of our children, families and the educators.”
